Visiting Oldham College
Monty ventured “Up North” as he headed to Manchester* for the first time ever to visit Oldham College.
While there, he delivered a guest lecture to Level 3 and Level 2 BTEC students on how to organise esports events. The students were incredibly engaged, and the modules themselves were genuinely impressive. He was particularly struck by how much buy-in esports has from other industries, with collaborations involving Williams Sim Racing and Manchester City Football Club. What an opportunity for students to gain exposure like that so early in their careers!
A huge thank you to Faculty Leader Luke Swaby for the invitation - Monty had nothing but praise for what you and the wider faculty have built at Oldham College. If only eSports was an option to study when he was a teenager!
Another big thank you to NCME Racing for agreeing to tag-team the session. As one of the longest-serving teams in the IMechE Formula Student Sim Racing Series, it was brilliant to hear how skills developed through eSports are being applied to real-world engineering challenges. From gamers to engineers > a pathway many students may never have considered possible until now.
